If I See Another Article Talking About What AI “thinks” On a Subject I’ll…

Whine and complain a whole bunch! That’s what I’ll do. I thought about having AI write this article about how annoying lazy journalist are to have AI write stories about AI, but I won’t bore you or myself. It’s annoying. And the titles are terrible. “You won’t believe what AI said about…” pizza, Bill Gates, George of the Jungle.

Right now we are in the midst of an awful readjustment where our language is being thrown back at us as if it’s original. It’s almost exactly what has been happening in country music for the past 20 years. One person puts out a song about…I don’t know…dirt…and we have lots of songs about dirt or something like dirt that isn’t dirt. It’s painful. Now take that and all the songs like that and mash them together and you get AI. From what I hear, with absolutely no proof, is that AI is being used a lot by the songwriters, which leads to my next rant.

AI songs! Just NO! It’s like sour beers. Just because you can do it, doesn’t mean you should. Yes, you can have AI make up a song about peeing your pants, but don’t! The Chili Peppers did a good job at that already. It’s a cute little exercise like the fill in the blank mad-lib games we all used to play. “hey let’s have the AI say boobs! Ha! That’s funny!”

And like the Mad Libs it is funny for a bit, but it doesn’t mean we should be using it for publishing books and songs or to have the AI sing our songs. I wish it was just a gimmick, but it’s being shoved down our throats so fast, we don’t have time to jump out of the way. I’m sure some will jump away, but songs for bad tv, bad movies, bad radio stations are all going towards AI.

Does the good outweigh the annoyances? As a songwriter and musician, it is tempting when you’re trying to find the right rhyme or you want to know how the lyrics works as a specific genre. And when writing, it’s much easier to start with a draft and improve upon it instead of starting with a blank page.

Last night, as I was chasing a mouse out of our house with the help of our cat, said “When do we get to be kids again?” in her I’m still sleeping voice. What a great line! I wrote it down, wrote out a few bad lines to go along with it, and it’s fun start of a song. Now, I could take that line and put it into AI and 10 seconds later I’d have song lyrics. And they might be fine, BUT, and here’s where my morals are starting to develop about AI, they are not mine. There’s two parts to that. They aren’t mine and they probably sound weird because AI goes in some weird directions…it sounds ok the first read, but the 2nd or 3rd time you read the lines you realize that it’s just weird. And second, I would then be memorize the semi shitty lines as if they were a good song. I feel I would be better off learning a Beatles song and not learning what some text pooping computer program suggests. So no thanks. I could be convinced that using it for unique rhymes or lines could be could in the same way that I use the rhymezone for near rhymes, but I don’t want it all over my lyrics. It’s just gross.
